That's the point of an article in today's Financial Post called A national imperative. Professor Barbara Orser, a professor at the Telfer School of Management, University of Ottawa writes that one of the forces that can lead Canada out of recession is the growth of women-owned firms.

Women, she says, lead half of Canada's small- and medium-sized firms with one in five firms being majority female-owned.

Female owned companies are a "women's issue" states Orser but is a business or economic imperative.

The article makes for some interesting reading - especially if you're a woman thinking about starting her own business.
