Wall Street Journal writer Sarah E. Needleman says if you're 50-plus you're going to need to plan ahead to avoid age bias in your next job interview.
In the article which appears on page C8 in today's Globe and Mail, Needleman suggests the following:
- Prepare mentally*
- Target niche recruiters (someone needs your experience)
- Make new connections (come to HAPPEN meetings)
- Get tech-savvy (like using this blog)
- Curb age bias (don't be stuck in the past)
* According to U.S. Bureau of Labour Statistics it takes an average of 22 weeks for someone over 55 to find a new job as compared to 16 weeks for younger workers.
