Making a personal impression is an important part of the job search process.    Every interaction with others continues to build an impression of your skills, experience and personality.  The way we use the tools that HAPPEN provides makes an impression, and this is especially true in a group environment.

The morning networking meetings are arranged to allow every member an opportunity to be seen and be recognised.   Those who volunteer to help with the operation of the meeting, by greeting members, introducing new members and the speaker of the day; tend to be remembered more than those who arrive late, keep a low profile, say little and/or leave early. Volunteers get more referrals and job offers quickly.

Electronic communication with one another also leaves an impression.  The HAPPEN link newsgroup has had a rash of unsuitable messages recently. Some have been removed by the moderators quickly to avoid further repercussions.

Keeping your computers virus free becomes even more important when you are part of a 2500 member newsgroup.

Members appreciate notice of other networking opportunities, but advertising any function that conflicts with the regularly scheduled Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday morning meetings by using a HAPPEN service, is like shooting ourselves in our own foot.

Some of our speakers are in great demand and are challenging for Jim Geraghty to schedule as regularly as we would like.    Brian Bassett our Approved Service Provider is one that we only see occasionally. He will lead an intensive Interview techniques workshop on Tuesday in Mississauga this week.  This is your chance to participate, by the time we see him again you will be working.

Come early, sit up front, have your information for your next interview ready, Brian will work with you to demonstrate how you can be the most acceptable candidate for your next employer.

The fast changing communication area of social media is becoming more dominant in the job search process.   Alexa Samuels will lead us through a social media workshop this Thursday in Markham. Come and learn how to eat an elephant.
