Yes it's true! Happiness seems to be contagious. In other words, you can catch happiness just from being around happy people. Researchers from Harvard and the University of California say that happiness can move through a population in very much the same manner as the flu bug. Happiness is so contagious that it can even affect people three times removed from each other.

In an article in today's Globe and Mail the researchers had even more good news. Misery does not love company and doesn't spread anywhere nearly as fast as happiness.

So the next time you're sitting round the breakfast table or you're attending a networking meeting, have a look around. Are you helping to raise the level of happiness in the room or are you committed to being miserable?

The research is being published today in the British Medical Journal.
