Malcolm Gladwell wrote the best-selling book The Tipping Point and Blink. Not bad for a kid from Elmira, Ontario.
Now he's written a new book, Outliers about who gets to be successful and why. According to Gladwell, anyone who wants to become an expert in their field needs to invest 10,000 hours of time. So if you're considering starting your own company, you might want to consider whether or not you've put in enough hours. And, what's 10,000 hours? It's 40 hours a week, 50 weeks a year for five years - non-stop.
The story about Gladwell, The Secret To Success, appears in this morning's Globe and Mail.
